GETTYSBURG, PA - Johns Hopkins senior Scott Bukoski (Sagamore, MA/Bourne) scored in the fourth minute to put the visiting Blue Jays on top and that proved to be the game-winner as Hopkins shut out Gettysburg, 1-0, on a misty Clark Field Wednesday night. The Blue Jays improve to 11-3-3 overall and stay alive in the Centennial Conference playoff hunt with a 4-2-2 record. The Bullets, meanwhile, fall to 4-9-2 overall and 3-3-2 in the conference.
Junior Sean Coleman (Lee, NH/Exeter/UNH) played a nice ball over the Gettysburg defense less than three minutes in to set up the early goal. Bukoski collected the pass, beat a defender and buried a shot to right side to give Hopkins a 1-0 lead. Less than a minute later, Bukoski nearly had a second one as he blasted a shot off a feed from freshman Drake Fisher (Hickory, NC/Hickory), but his shot hit the post. Hopkins continued to pepper the Gettysburg goal but could not get an insurance tally. Gettysburg pressured late as five of the Bullets' nine second-half shots came in the final 15 minutes, but the Blue Jay defense did not surrender the equalizer.
Senior goalie Ravi Gill (Morganville, NJ/Marlboro) finished with one save in posting his 10th shutout of the season. For the Bullets, Connor Darrell had four saves in the loss. Hopkins held the advantage in shots (23-10), while Gettysburg had more corners (5-4). The win for Hopkins is its first at Gettysburg since 2003.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, October 30 against Washington College as the Blue Jays look to secure a playoff berth. Game time is slated for 7:30 pm at Homewood Field.
