WASHINGTON, DC - Sophomore Ross Schofield (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) netted a hat trick to lead visiting Johns Hopkins to an 11-8 win over George Washington Wednesday night in CWPA Southern Division action. The Blue Jays move to 13-11 overall and 3-3 in the league, while the Colonials fall to 7-16 and 1-5.
The Blue Jays jumped out to a 3-0 lead but the Colonials answered with three straight to tie the match at 3-3 after one quarter. Hopkins retook a 4-3 lead, but GW pulled even at the half. Hopkins came out strong to start the third quarter, with back-to-back goals in the opening 49 seconds to lead 6-4. The Blue Jays could not put the Colonials away as Nate Little scored GW's next three goals to make it an 8-7 game just 42 seconds into the final quarter. Hopkins would score three goals in a span of 2:23 midway through the final stanza to push out to an 11-7 lead. Peter Thomas would score with 1:34 to play to account for the 11-8 final.
Sophomore Alex Whittam (Hillsborough, CA/Sacred Heart Prep) and freshman Stephen Kingery (Moraga, CA/Campolindo) each netted a pair for the Blue Jays. While Little had a match-high four for the Colonials. Senior goalie Jeremy Selbst (Old Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) had eight saves in the win for Hopkins. Cameron Illes had nine saves for George Washington.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, October 30 and wraps up regular season play. Hopkins will take on Navy at 2:00 pm in Annapolis before facing George Washington at 5:00 pm in a rematch.
