CARLISLE, PA - The Johns Hopkins men's soccer team got a first half goal from junior Sean Coleman (Lee, NH/Exeter/UNH) and the defense made it stand as the Blue Jays beat host Dickinson, 1-0, Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 8-2-3 overall (2-1-2 CC). The Red Devils slip to 7-3-2 (2-2-1 CC).
Hopkins finally cashed in after some early pressure as the Blue Jays forced a turnover deep in the Red Devils' end. Coleman collected the loose ball, dribbled down the right touch and then cut inside before ripping a shot inside the near post to stake the Blue Jays to a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute. Hopkins continued to press, outshooting Dickinson 11-2 in the first half. But Cody Hickok came up with six first half saves to keep the margin at one heading into the break.
The tide turned a bit in the second half as Dickinson stepped up its pressure. The Red Devils had some chances, but the Blue Jay defense kept most of them away from goal. Dickinson had six shots in the second stanza, but none were on target.
Senior Ravi Gill (Morganville, NJ/Marlboro) finished with a pair of saves in earning his eighth shutout of the season. Hickok posted eight saves in the loss for the Red Devils. Hopkins finished with the edge in shots (15-8) and corners (5-4).
Hopkins returns to action on Monday, October 11 as St. Mary's visits Homewood Field. The non-conference match-up is slated for a 7:00 pm start.
