Hopkins Wins 200, 400 Free Relays at Thomas Murphy Invitational

BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's swim team wrapped up the Thomas Murphy Invitational at nearby Loyola University on Saturday, falling to the host Greyhounds, 237.50-126.50. The Blue Jays are now 1-1 on the season, while the Greyhounds are 5-1. The Blue Jays bookended the day with wins in the 200 and 400 Free Relays.

Hopkins opened the day with a win in the 200 Free Relay as Eddy Zandee, Carter Gisriel, Anthony Lordi and Joe Acquaviva combined for a time of 1:24.66. Michael Leddy was the Blue Jays' top finisher in the 400 IM, clocking in at 4:19.94 to place fifth. In the 100 Fly, Hopkins went two-three courtesy of Nick Schmidt and Gisriel. Schmidt claimed second with a time of 51.88, while Gisriel placed third in 52.34.

Lordi picked up a second place finish in the 200 Free, finishing in 1:42.62, just 0.22 seconds behind Loyola's Scott Heil. Hopkins took second through sixth in the 100 Back, led by Schmidt's second place finish in 54.35. He was followed by David Woodford (54.57), Sean Glass (55.03), Dylan Coggin (55.42) and Dan Raynard (55.59). Hopkins turned the same trick in the 100 Breast. Tim Nam led the way with a second place finish, clocking in at 1:00.01. He was followed by Alex Polyak (1:00.26), Chris Razavi (1:01.60), Acquaviva (1:01.70) and Jason Ho (1:01.76).

Leddy then took third in the 1650 Free with a time of 17:12.78, followed by Alec Contag in fourth with a time of 17:24.83. Hopkins followed with a second place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. Schmidt, Acquaviva, Zandee and Gisriel swam a total time of 1:36.45. The Blue Jays followed that by taking second through fifth in the 200 Back. Lordi led the way with a time of 1:57.94 for second place. He was followed by Woodford (2:00.36), Glass (2:01.75) and Will Kimball (2:04.71).

In the 100 Free, Schmidt took second with a time of 48.32, while Tyler Woods took third with a time of 48.69. Nam then took third in the 200 Breast, clocking in at 2:10.16. Polyak took fourth (2:10.69) and Razavi took fifth (2:14.98). Gisriel took fourth in the 200 Fly (2:04.73) before Hopkins wrapped up the day the way it started, with a win. The Blue Jays won the 400 Free Relay to close out the meet. Zandee, Woods, Coggin and Ho swam a time of 3:11.44.

Hopkins returns to action at the Terrapin Cup hosted by Maryland, November 18-20.
