RADNOR, PA - Junior Sean Coleman (Lee, NH/Exeter/UNH) scored a pair of second-half goals in a six-minute span, including the game-winner, to lead fifth-ranked Johns Hopkins to a 3-1 win at Cabrini Wednesday night. The Blue Jays remain unbeaten on the season, improving to 5-0-1, while the Cavaliers fall to 0-6-0.
Senior Evan Kleinberg (South Orange, NJ/Columbia) put Hopkins on the board early, scoring his first of the season in just the 10th minute. He dribbled down the left side of the box, made a move around his defender, and blasted a shot inside the opposite post.
The Blue Jays' lead held until the 61st minute, when Ryan Cerrato pulled the Cavaliers even. Jim Mattock played the ball to a streaking Cerrato, who one-touched the ball past senior goalie Ravi Gill (Morganville, NJ/Marlboro) to knot the score at 1-1.
Coleman came on in the 78th minute and it did not take him long to get on the board. In the 80th minute, he sliced through the Cabrini box and scored on a shot to the opposite post to give Hopkins back the lead. Just six minutes and four seconds later, Kleinberg and Coleman connected on a goal to push the Blue Jays' lead to two. Kleinberg crossed the ball into the box and Coleman one-timed it from about 10-yards out for his second of the night.
Gill finished with two saves to earn the win for Hopkins, while Cabrini's Eric Nowicki had three saves. The Blue Jays held the advantage in shots (16-3) and corners (8-0).
Hopkins returns home for the first time in nearly two weeks to host 13th-ranked Swarthmore on Saturday, September 18. The game is the Centennial Conference opener for both teams and is slated to begin at 4:00 pm.
