Box Score

BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins women's soccer team used balanced scoring to defeat Washington College, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon at Homewood Field in the Centennial Conference opener for both teams. The Blue Jays have now won four straight games and are 6-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference. The Shorewomen fall to 2-2-1 on the year and 0-1 in conference play.

Seven different players found the back of the net for Hopkins, as they continue to spread the scoring around this season. Thirteen players have now scored at least one goal on the year for the Blue Jays.

Sophomore Taylor Schulte started the scoring barrage just over two minutes into the game, blasting a shot from about 25 yards out that sailed over Washington goalkeeper Tori Ripple and into the back of the net. The goal was the first of Schulte's career.

Hopkins took a 2-0 lead in the 21st minute when senior Jenn Paulucci ripped a shot from outside the 18-yard box that ricocheted off the crossbar and back to the front of the goal. Senior Erin Stafford was in the right spot to clean up the mess, touching the ball to the near post for her third score of the year.

Senior Allie Zazzali notched her fourth goal of the season in the 32nd minute when she controlled the ball in the center of the field just outside the 18-yard box and bended a shot to the left corner.

Senior Sara Tankard tallied her team-leading sixth assist in the 40th minute when she cleverly beat a defender and dribbled the ball along the right goal-line before tapping a pass back to freshman Amanda Yaccarino, who knocked home her first career goal to give Hopkins a 4-0 lead at the half.

In the 54th minute freshman Christina Convey collected a Zazzali feed inside the box with her back to the goal, turned to her right past a defender and buried her second goal of the season to the left side of the net to give JHU a 5-0 advantage.

Just over five minutes later Hopkins scored again to take a 6-0 lead, as junior Paulina Goodman recorded her team-leading fifth goal of the season off a feed from freshman Pamela Vranis. Vranis settled the ball just over the midfield line, dribbled towards goal and slipped a beautiful pass to Goodman who slid it past the goalkeeper.

Hopkins rounded out its scoring in the 83rd minute when Yaccarino dished a pass to Tankard for a score, returning the favor from earlier in the game.

The Blue Jays dominated the possession of the ball and outshot the Shorewomen 44-2. Junior Kristen Redsun recorded the win for the Blue Jays, while Ripple notched 19 saves in the loss for the Shorewomen.

Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, September 22 on the road against St. Mary's (Md) at 4 pm.
