BALTIMORE, MD - The seventh-ranked Johns Hopkins women's soccer team defeated Swarthmore, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon at Homewood Field in Centennial Conference action. The Blue Jays improve to 8-1 (2-0 CC) on the year, while the Garnet fall to 2-4-2 (1-1 CC).

The Blue Jays found the back of the net first in the 18th minute when senior Allie Zazzali followed a Blue Jay shot that was punched to the right of the goal by Garnet goalkeeper Marie Mutryn and calmly slid a pass to junior Paulina Goodman in the center of the box. Goodman looked to her right and found senior Erin Stafford all alone on the right side of the goal. Stafford notched her fourth goal of the season to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 advantage.

The Garnet battled back to even the score in the 37th minute on a goal from freshman Hannah Deming, her second of the season. Deming took a pass from from senior Elizabeth Mills on the left side just outside the 18-yard box and blasted a shot to the upper far post to knot the game at 1-1.

Hopkins came out of the intermission playing with aggression and a sense of urgency and quickly took back the lead just over two minutes into the half on a Goodman goal, her team-leading sixth of the season. Goodman buried a shot to the far corner from about 12 yards out off an assist from Zazzali to give the Blue Jays a 2-1 lead.

JHU stretched its lead to 3-1 in the 62nd minute when Goodman played a cross on the ground from the right side into the center of the box that freshman Pamela Vranis one-timed to the near post to notch her third goal of the season.

Junior Erica Suter put the finishing touches on the win for the Blue Jays, scoring in the 76th minute off a feed from senior Jenn Paulucci. Suter took the pass from Paulucci on the left side of the box and sailed the ball to the far post over Garnet backup goalkeeper Kaitlyn Sipiora to give the Blue Jays a 4-1 advantage.

Hopkins held a commanding 25-6 advantage in shots and a 3-2 edge in corner kicks. Junior Kristen Redsun recorded two saves in goal for the Blue Jays, while Mutryn and Sipiora tallied five and four saves for the Garnet, respectively.

The Blue Jays return to action on Tuesday, September 28 when they travel to Dickinson for a Centennial Conference matchup at 5 pm.
