BALTIMORE, MD - Freshman Sam Glassman (Simsbury, CT/Kingswood-Oxford) scored the game's only goal as 10th-ranked Johns Hopkins shut out visiting Catholic, 1-0, to win the Blue Jay Classic Sunday night. Junior defender Corey Adams (Cedar Grove, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) was named the MVP of the tournament for Hopkins. The Blue Jays improve to 2-0-0 on the season, while the Cardinal slip to 1-2-0.
The Blue Jays and the Cardinals battled back and forth for 90 minutes, but it was Glassman's goal in the 70th minute that made the difference. Freshman Drake Fisher (Hickory, NC/Hickory) controlled the ball just to the right of the Catholic box and dropped a pass back to Glassman near the 18. Glassman collected the ball and scored on a hard shot to the left of Cardinal goalie Quinn Daly. It was Glassman's first career goal for the Blue Jays.
Senior goalie Ravi Gill (Morganville, NJ/Marlboro) made two saves in earning his second straight shutout, while Daly finished with one save in the loss. Hopkins held a 12-7 advantage in shots in a game that had more total fouls (24).
Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, September 8 in a battle of two top-10 teams as the 10th-ranked Blue Jays visit the eighth-ranked York Spartans. Game time is set for 4:00 pm at Graham Field.
