Hopkins Races Past NYU, 40-3, in Non-Conference Action

Jan. 5, 2011

BALTIMORE, MD - Freshman Ray Yagloski scored a pin of Will Ladnier at 2:15 of the first period to jump-start a string of eight straight wins for the Johns Hopkins wrestling team as the Blue Jays knocked off visiting NYU, 40-3, in non-conference action at Goldfarb Gymnasium Wednesday night. The win improves JHU's record to 2-6, while the Violets slip to 1-4.

Yagloski's pin, the second of his career and the fifth-fastest by a JHU wrestler this season, ignited the Blue Jays, who got wins by decision from Paul Marcello (133), Henry Stauber (141), Rocky Barilla (157) and Patrick Stanley (184) and a major decision from senior Eric Levenseller (165). Barilla improved to a team-best 15-6 with his 6-0 victory over Michael Roberson at 157.

Marcello, an NCAA qualifier as a freshman last season, took a hard-fought 6-3 win over Adlee Fayyaz, while Stanley, an NCAA qualifier as a freshman in 2008, moved up a weight class to take on Sabino Galassi and earned a 4-2 win.

Junior Steve Massey scored the only win of the match for NYU as he decisioned Ben Finelli, 6-0, at 197. In addition to Yagloski's pin at 125, the four decisions and one major, Hopkins also took forfeit wins at 149, 174 and 285 to account for its 40 point effort.

Johns Hopkins will return to action on Friday, January 7 when the Blue Jays participate in the 2011 Virginia Duals.
