BALTIMORE, MD - The visiting Dickinson men's soccer team scored three second-half goals to defeat Johns Hopkins in Centennial Conference action Saturday at Homewood Field. The Blue Jays suffer their first conference loss of the season and fall to 6-4-3 overall and 4-1-1 in the conference. The Red Devils snap a three-game winless streak to improve to 7-4-3 and 4-2-0 in the Centennial.

The play of Red Devils' keeper Cody Hickok midway through the first half kept the game scoreless. Freshman Kotaro Mitsuhashi ripped a shot from 20 yards out that Hickok managed to just punch over the crossbar. On the ensuing corner kick, senior Sean Coleman bent the ball in on target and Hickok once again punched the ball up and over. On the second corner, senior Corey Adams' header seemed destined for goal, but the Dickinson netminder was there again to knock the ball away.

Dickinson ended the drought in the 54th minute after a penalty kick was awarded due to a hard tackle in the Blue Jay box. Javier Mena took the penalty and calmly buried a shot low to Nick Cerrone's left side. Senior Drew Holland nearly drew the Blue Jays even in the 63rd minute on a header that beat Hickok but was cleared off the line by a Dickinson defender. Twenty minutes later, Coleman rang a shot off the crossbar that would have tied the game. Just over a minute later, Dickinson had a two-goal lead. Shepherd Waldenberger dribbled in on the right end line, drawing Cerrone to the near post. He then centered the ball to Jamie Martin, who one-timed the ball into the net in the 84th minute.

Three minutes later, Martin received his second yellow card, forcing the Red Devils to play a man down for the final 2:33. Waldenberger capped the scoring in the 89th minute after eluding a Hopkins defender near the top of the box and putting a shot inside the right post.

Cerrone finished with a pair of saves in the loss, while Hickok made five to earn the shutout. Hopkins outshot Dickinson 16-9 and had six corners to just one for Dickinson. The loss is the first in conference for the Blue Jays since October 23, 2010, snapping a seven-game unbeaten streak (6-0-1). Despite the loss, Hopkins remains in first place in the Centennial Conference, due to Swarthmore's loss at Ursinus tonight. The Blue Jays are currently one point ahead of the Garnet and the Red Devils in the standings.

Hopkins returns to action on Tuesday, October 18 when the Blue Jays host the Neumann Knights at 7:00 pm in non-conference action at Homewood Field.
