WESTMINSTER, MD - The Johns Hopkins volleyball team rolled to its 10th straight win as the Blue Jays downed McDaniel in straight sets, 3-0, as they clinched at least a first round bye in the upcoming Centennial Conference tournament set to begin the first week of November. The Blue Jays won with set scores of 25-4, 25-10, 25-10.
The Blue Jays improved to 20-4 on the season and have tied the program best nine conference wins with a 9-0 CC slate. The Green Terror fell to 0-24 on the season and 0-9 in the conference.
Johns Hopkins got out to an early lead in the first set, 2-1, with a kill from freshman Meagan Donohoe before Hopkins went on an eight-point run behind the serving of freshman Ellen Rogers. The Blue Jays then used a nine-point stretch to extend their lead to 24-3 before winning the set 25-4.
The Green Terror battled back in the second set to pull within three, 6-9, behind two straight points before the Blue Jays pulled away to lead by as many as seven points at 15-8. Hopkins used a four point and five point run to close out the set 25-10 and go up two sets to none on the Green Terror.
The Blue Jays took a four point lead to open the third and final set and rolled to a three-set sweep of the Green Terror as the Blue Jays did not allow McDaniel to score more than two points in a row.
Freshman Katie Schwarz led the attack with nine kills and three service aces. Freshman Mariel Metalios handed out 14 assists while Schwarz picked up a team-high 10 digs.
Johns Hopkins returns to the court when the Blue Jays host Gettysburg on Saturday, October 29 at 11 am in a battle for first place in the Centennial and the rights to host the 2011 CC Tournament.
