TOWSON, MD - The Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team held host Towson to just one goal as the Blue Jays beat the Tigers, 10-1, at Johnny Unitas Stadium Wednesday afternoon. Hopkins improves to 4-1 on the season, while Towson falls to 0-3. Junior Colleen McCaffrey paced the Blue Jays' offense with three goals.

Senior Brooke Foussadier, goal line extended, fed a cutting McCaffrey, who scored on a low shot just 2:38 in as Hopkins took a 1-0 lead. Just 64 seconds later, junior Rachel Ballatori took a pass from junior Candace Rossi and scored from in close. McCaffrey pushed the lead to three at 7:01 and forced a Towson timeout when she one-timed a pass from Ballatori past Towson's Mary Teeters. Freshman Taylor D'Amore scored unassisted more than eight minutes later when she rolled the crease and snuck one past Teeters. Sophomore Monica Fischer closed out the scoring for the first half to send the Blue Jays into the locker room with a 5-0 lead. Off a restart on a Towson foul, Fischer dodged the right alley and scored on a bounce shot with 10:29 to play in the half.

Coming out of the break, D'Amore pushed the lead to six with her second of the afternoon. A goal line extended Rossi dished a short pass to D'Amore, who spun around her defender and rifled a side-arm shot past Teeters. Towson finally cut on the board with 4:08 gone in the second half, cashing in after four consecutive free position attempts. Kelly Custer scored what proved to be the Tigers' only goal of the game to end Towson's scoring drought at 34:08.

Foussadier got that one back for the Blue Jays with a free position goal of her own at 8:32. Just 16 seconds later, the Blue Jays' lead was seven as McCaffrey won the draw and went right to the cage, completing her hat trick to put Hopkins on top 8-1. It was nearly nine minutes before the Blue Jays scored again, but they got two quick ones. D'Amore added an assist to her two goals, when from behind the goal she passed over the top to sophomore Katie Duffey, who one-timed the pass for her fifth goal of the season. Foussadier closed out the scoring for the game just 22 seconds later thanks to some unselfish passing. Hopkins won the draw following Duffey's goal and Fischer passed to a wide-open Foussadier on the door step, who faked high and went low to make it a 10-1 game.

Seven different Blue Jays scored in the win and six of those had multi-point games. McCaffrey's hat trick led the way, while Foussadier (2g, 1a) and D'Amore (2g, 1a) also had three-point days. Sophomore Cosette Larash finished with eight saves while allowing just the one goal in the win. While junior Alyssa Kildare led the Hopkins defense with four caused turnovers, two ground balls and four draw controls. Teeters finished with 11 saves for the Tigers in the loss.

The Blue Jays held the Tigers scoreless for 32:26, the first time Hopkins has shut out an opponent for an entire half since a 12-1 win over Drexel on March 31, 2010. The one goal allowed is also the fewest the Blue Jays have allowed since that win over the Dragons. The win snaps a two-game losing streak to the Tigers and is the Blue Jays first win at Johnny Unitas Stadium since April 30, 2007.

Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, March 16 as the ninth-ranked Georgetown Hoyas visit Homewood Field. The game will be televised on ESPNU with opening draw slated for 6:00 pm.
