Box Score

BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins volleyball team made it five-in-a-row after defeating Centennial Conference rival, Muhlenberg, 3-0, Saturday afternoon by scores of 25-10, 25-14, 25-17. The Blue Jays have not dropped a set, let alone a match, at home this season, extending their home winning streak to 11 matches, dating back to October 12, 2010.

The Blue Jays are now 10-3 overall, 2-0 in the CC while the Mules fall to 3-10 on the season, and even their CC slate at 1-1.

The Blue Jays were faced with some pressure early in the first set, but broke away to roll to the first-set win, 25-11. Senior Melissa Cole led the attack in the first set and set the tone for the match with four kills in the opening frame. Freshman Ellen Rogers was right behind with three kills to open the match.

The Mules kept the set close early in the second frame, but the Blue Jays found an opening and pushed their way to a 25-14 victory.

The Mules evened the score at 9-9 in the third set before the Blue Jays found their grove for the third time in the match. The two teams battled back and forth before the Blue Jays pulled to a 16-11 lead behind the serving of freshman Meagan Donohoe. The Mules would fight back to pull within two, 17-15, but a Rogers kill put the Blue Jays up 18-15 and spark the 25-17 victory.

Cole led the match with 10 kills, one service ace and 10 digs, while Rogers was right behind with eight kills and two digs. Freshman Anne Cohen led the defense with 12 digs, two assists and one service ace. Junior Carolyn Mickelson and freshman Mariel Metalios split the match as setters, each handing out 15 assists, while Mickelson had five digs and two aces. Donohue finished the match with a match-high four service aces.

Johns Hopkins returns to the court when the Blue Jays travel to Owings Mills, MD to face non-conference opponent, Stevenson, on Tuesday, September 27 at 7 pm.
