GETTYSBURG, PA - The Johns Hopkins men's soccer team battled host Gettysburg to a scoreless draw in a match-up of two of the three remaining unbeatens in Centennial Conference play Wednesday. The Blue Jays are now 4-2-3 overall and 2-0-1 in the conference while the Bullets are now 4-3-1 and 2-0-1.
Both teams had their chances but neither defense cracked as Hopkins took 14 shots with seven of those blocked by defenders and three were gobbled up by Bullets' goalie Connor Darrell. Gettysburg meanwhile took 15 shots, though nine were off target and one hit the post. Freshman goalie Nick Cerrone saved both shots that were on goal.
Gettysburg nearly put home the winner in the 110th minute after Hopkins was called for a foul on the right side, between the box and the sideline. The ball ended up on the far post on the head of Parker Delmolino, but his header just whistled past the left post and the game ended in a draw.
With the tie, Hopkins and Gettysburg now sit tied for second in the conference standings. The Blue Jays and Bullets are two points behind Dickinson, which beat McDaniel tonight to move to 3-0-0 in league play. Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, October 1 as the Blue Jays travel to Lancaster, PA to take on Franklin & Marshall. Game time is slated for 6:00 pm.
