ASTON, PA - Neumann used four first-half goals to earn its first ever victory over visiting Johns Hopkins in non-conference men's soccer action Wednesday night. The Blue Jays fall to 5-5-2 overall, while the Knights improve to 8-4-2 with their third straight win.
Neumann, which had scored just one goal in the previous four meetings in the series, needed less than seven minutes to take a 2-0 lead in the game. Nathan Beideman scored what proved to be the game-winner in the fourth minute off an assist from Caleb Clanton. Dan Chrashewsky doubled the Knights' lead just over three minutes later, with Steve Warhola collecting the helper. Francis Kailondo added to the lead in the 22nd minute, putting home a feed from Andy Attah before Mike McCarthy capped the scoring in the 42nd minute.
Neumann outshot Hopkins, 12-11, but Hopkins had a 6-1 advantage in corners. Sophomore Nick Cerrone made three saves in the loss for the Blue Jays and had his shutout streak snapped at 431:48. It is the second longest shutout streak of his career. Alex Lacko earned the shutout for the Knights, turning aside all six shots he faced.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, October 13 as the Blue Jays travel to Carlisle, PA to take on the Dickinson Red Devils in Centennial Conference action. Game time is set for 12:00 pm.
