WASHINGTON, DC - Johns Hopkins defeated host George Washington, 16-7, on Wednesday evening behind four-goal outings from seniors Ross Schofield and Alex Whittam. The win moves Hopkins into a tie for second place in the CWPA Southern Division, East Region standings. The Blue Jays improve to 19-7 overall and 4-3 in the league, while the Colonials drop to 9-12 overall and 1-5 in the league.

Sophomore Wes Hopkins and freshman Kevin Yeescored the game's first two goals, just 49 seconds apart, to put Hopkins on top 2-0. Paul Deasey and Ridvan Pehlivan then sandwiched a pair of goals around a strike from Schofield and Hopkins led 3-2 with 2:27 to play in the first quarter. Schofield and Whittam then combined for three goals in the final 2:27 of the quarter to stake the Blue Jays to a 6-2 lead at the end of the first.

The teams traded four goals in the second quarter and Hopkins led, 8-4, at halftime. Hopkins pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring GW, 6-0. The Colonials started to chip away at the beginning of the fourth period, as Pehlivan and Deasey gave GW back-to-back goals for the first time in the game to make it 14-6, but the Blue Jays responded with two in a row to reopen the 10-goal lead, 16-6, with 37 seconds to play. Milos Purkovic closed out the scoring for GW 12 seconds later for the 16-7 final margin.

Whittam paced the Blue Jay offense with four goals and four assists, while also drawing four ejections. Schofield notched four goals and added two helpers while drawing four ejections as well.
