GETTYSBURG, PA - The Johns Hopkins volleyball team held Gettysburg to a .014 hitting percentage as it swept the Bullets in straight-sets (25-17, 25-15, 25-11) Saturday afternoon in Gettysburg, PA.
The victory advanced the Blue Jays to 9-1 in the Centennial Conference (27-3 overall), while Gettysburg fell to 6-4. Hopkins awaits the result of Franklin & Marshall's match to determine the host of the Centennial Conference Tournament.
After falling behind early in the first set, the Blue Jays stormed back to surpass the Bullets, 25-17. Hopkins closed out the set with two kills by Megan Cohan on assists by teammate Mariel Metalios.
Hopkins then doubled its lead by tallying a .625 hitting percentage in the second set to earn a 25-15 set victory. The Blue Jays cruised in the third set, 25-11, to complete the sweep.
Cohan had a match-high eight kills (.727 pct.), while Metalios and Carolyn Zin combined for 29 assists in the victory. Gettysburg struggled offensively, notching just 16 kills in the entire match.
The Blue Jays return to action on Saturday, November 4, in the semi-finals of the Centennial Conference Tournament. The opponent is dependent upon today's results.
