BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's soccer team battled visiting Salisbury to a scoreless draw on Wednesday night in non-conference soccer action at Homewood Field. The Blue Jays are now 4-4-2 on the season while the Sea Gulls are 7-2-2.
Both teams had their chances but goalies Nick Cerrone and John Vnenchak were up to the task. Salisbury's best chance of the first half came early, when Matt Greene had a good look at goal but his shot hit the right post and ricocheted out of danger in the 10th minute. Freshman Kenny DeStefano had a great chance in the 24th minute, but his attempt just nicked the cross bar to keep the teams scoreless. It was more of the same in the second half, with the run of play going back and forth. But in the end, neither team could find the goal and the game ended in a draw.
Cerrone finished with five saves for his sixth shutout of the season, while his counterpart Venenchak made four. Hopkins had a 15-14 edge in shots and a distinct 7-1 advantage in corners.
Hopkins returns to Centennial Conference play on Saturday, October 6 as the Ursinus Bears visit Homewood Field. Game time is set for 4:00 pm.
