LANCASTER, PA - Maria Touloumes scored the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute to lead the No. 17 Johns Hopkins women's soccer team past Franklin & Marshall, 2-1, Wednesday night.
Hopkins (8-2-1, 3-1) pushed the Diplomats to 2-3-4 overall and 1-2-2 in the Centennial Conference. The Blue Jays outshot F&M by a wide margin, 18-4, in the victory.
Similar to its previous game against Swarthmore, the Blue Jays struck quickly in the second half after being stymied in the first. Kelly Baker scored just three minutes into the second frame after receiving a looping through ball from the conference's leader in points, Hannah Kronick.
The Diplomats answered in the 61st minute when Selena Boro struck gold on a left-footed blast past Hopkins goalkeeper Meredith Maguire to even the score line. Touloumes' late tally would be enough to garner the victory for the visiting Blue Jays, however.
Maguire made one save in the victory for Hopkins, while F&M's Amanda McGowan made six saves in defeat.
Hopkins returns to Homewood Field for a three-game homestand beginning with a match against Ursinus on Saturday, October 6.
