Haverford, PA - Victoria Sobocinski tallied 15 points and nine rebounds to lead Haverford past the Johns Hopkins women's basketball team, 58-39, in the Centennial Conference season-opener for both sides Tuesday night in Haverford.

The Blue Jays led at the halftime break, but were held to just four field goals in the second half by a stingy Haverford defense. Senior Alex Vassila had a team-high nine points and seven rebounds, in addition to three blocks.

Haverford (1-2, 1-0 CC) opened the game strong, taking an early 9-3 lead behind five points from Sobocinski. Hopkins (1-3, 0-1 CC) rallied late in the first half, however, as it used an 8-0 run to surpass the Fords and take a 30-27 lead into the half.

The Blue Jays' halftime advantage was due in large part to their proficient shooting, as they shot 57% from the field. Stacy Fairey knocked down two shots from beyond the arc and totaled eight points through the first frame.

Haverford changed its defensive stance in the second half, however, as it employed an effective zone against Hopkins. The young Blue Jay guards struggled against the new defensive alignment, and the entire team went cold from the field.

The Fords caught fire on the offensive end, as Elizabeth Lynch knocked down three second half three-pointers to give her side a double-digit advantage it would never relinquish.

The Blue Jays look to regain their winning ways on Sunday against Washington & Lee at 4:00 pm in Goldfarb Gym.
