BALTIMORE, MD - Christina Convey scored two goals and Hannah Kronick added a goal and an assist as the No. 24 Johns Hopkins women's soccer team defeated Swarthmore, 3-1, in the Centennial Conference semifinals. The Blue Jays will play the winner of Gettysburg and Haverford in the final.

Hopkins took the early lead in the 15th minute when Kronick played a perfect through ball to Convey in the middle of the pitch. Convey dribbled past goalkeeper Reba Magier and then placed the ball into the open net.

Convey then doubled the Blue Jay lead five minutes later after one-timing a rebound into the upper left corner from 10-yards out.

The Garnet responded with a cracking free kick by Amber Famiglietti in the 23rd minute, but Hopkins goalie Meredith Maguire leaped to punch the ball to safety.

Swarthmore continued to prove dangerous on set pieces, and capitalized in the 40th minute when Famiglietti curled an inswinging corner kick to the far post. Emily Gale met the ball in the air and nodded it home to cut the Hopkins lead in half, 2-1.

Midfield play dominated the first 20 minutes of second half play, but it was apparent that the Garnet had gained momentum as the half wore on.

Amy Dipierro missed just wide on an excellent opportunity for Swarthmore in the 73rd minute, and Emma Sindelar was robbed of a goal in the 75th minute when Hope Lundberg saved a shot on the goal line.

The Blue Jays managed to keep the Garnet at bay for the remaining 15 minutes, and tallied an insurance goal in the 86th minute as Hannah Kronick pocketed a shot in the bottom left corner.

Haverford upset second-seeded Gettysburg, 1-0, to advance to the conference final. The Blue Jays cruised by the Fords in their first meeting this season, winning 5-1.

Hopkins has won 15-straight conference tournament games, and can win its eighth consecutive conference title with a win tomorrow. The championship match is slated for 1:00 pm at Homewood Field.
