WESTMINSTER, MD - With 00:01 on the clock, McDaniel's Emma Wingred put back up a missed three to sink the visiting #22-ranked Johns Hopkins women's basketball team, Wednesday evening at Gill Center, in Centennial Conference action.

The Blue Jays (19-3, 14-3) tied the game with just 10 seconds to go on a three-pointer from sophomore Katie Brooks and seemed to have overtime in their sights as McDaniel's Rachel Rybak missed a triple with three ticks left but Wingred grabbed the rebound and put it back up as time expired to hand the Green Terror (10-13, 7-11) the upset victory, 76-74, over Hopkins.

With 1:36 to go in the second half, the Blue Jays went on a quick 6-2 spurt behind threes from senior Chantel Mattiola and Brooks to tie the game, but as the game played out for the other 38:24 of action, the other team quickly retaliated as soon as one would score.

The Green Terror built a 10-point lead with 11:01 to go in the first half before the Blue Jays began chipping away. Hopkins scored 10 unanswered points to tie the game at 19 before McDaniel pulled away by four with 7:37 to go, it would prove the be the largest lead the Green Terror would hold for the rest of the half. With 3:22 to go, junior Alex Vassila hit the back end of a trip to the free throw line to give the Blue Jays a two point lead, but the two teams would go basket-for-basket five times over the next 2:38 with McDaniel eventually coming out on top, 37-36, going into half time.

The Green Terror built a seven-point lead over the first 7:15, but just as they did in the first half, the Blue Jays mounted a comeback and took a slim one-point lead behind five-straight free throws from Mattiola with 10:10 on the clock. The Blue Jays went on to build a six-point lead, their largest of the game, capped off by a jumper from Brooks at 7:56. McDaniel powered back and re-took the lead, 69-68, with 2:51 to play and would not fall behind the Blue Jays for the rest of the game. Brooks tied the game for the seventh time in the second half with her first three of the season, but the Green Terror were able to get off the final shot at the buzzer and seal the victory.

Mattiola led scoring with 21 points while Vassila posted her seventh double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Brooks finished the day with seven points, all in the second half, while senior Stephanie Fong handed out a game-high six assists.

The Blue Jays won the rebounding battle, 39-23.

Johns Hopkins returns to action when the Blue Jays return home to kick off a three-game road stand to wrap up the regular season. The Blue Jays host Ursinus on Saturday, February 11 inside Goldfarb Gym as Hopkins' honors its team three seniors before the game. Tip is set for 1:00 p.m.
