BALTIMORE, MD - Host Johns Hopkins beat Bucknell, 14-13, behind a school-record-tying eight goals from senior Ross Schofield Sunday afternoon in the first of two CWPA Southern Division matches Sunday afternoon. In the nightcap, 15th-ranked Princeton got three fourth quarter goals to beat Hopkins, 9-6. Hopkins is now 13-3 overall and 2-1 in the league as they saw their seven-match win streak snapped in the loss to the Tigers.

Bucknell jumped on top of Hopkins 5-3 after the first quarter, before the Blue Jays rallied to take a 7-5 lead at the half. The Bison responded in the third quarter, taking an 11-10 lead over the Blue Jays until sophomore Wes Hopkins' man-up goal with just 18 seconds left in the quarter tied the match up heading into the final quarter. The teams traded goals to open the fourth before Schofield scored a man-up goal followed by a five-meter just 77 seconds apart to put Hopkins on top 14-12. Andrew Somers scored with 2:41 to play to bring the Bison within one but that would be the final goal of the game as sophomore Danny Ovelar came up with a huge save just before the final horn to preserve the win.

Just four days after scoring a school-record eight goals, Schofield turned the same trick. He also grabbed two steals and drew a pair of ejections to pace Hopkins in the win. Hopkins notched a hat trick, while senior Alex Whittam added a goal, four assists, three steals, two ejections drawn and three blocks. Ovelar finished with seven saves and one steal in two quarters, while classmate Scott Weigel made a pair of saves to go along with two steals in two quarters.

In the afternoon, it was Hopkins that got off to a good start, taking a 4-1 lead on Princeton before a late Tigers' goal made it 4-2 after the first quarter. The Tigers picked up where they left off with a 3-1 second stanza to make it a 5-5 match at the half. Bradley Wachtell scored the only goal of the third quarter with just 34 seconds to play to put Princeton on top 6-5 heading into the final quarter. The Tigers wrapped up the match with a 3-1 fourth quarter to take home the win.

Schofield led the team with a hat trick and two steals, while Whittam had a pair of assists and four steals. Ovelar made eight saves in three quarters of action, while Weigel had four saves.

Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, September 29 as the Blue Jays travel to Lewisburg, PA for the Bison Invitational. Hopkins is scheduled to face Toronto (3:00 pm) and Harvard (6:00 pm).
