Mustangs Ground Blue Jays in Straight-Set Victory

BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins volleyball team dropped its first match of the season, 3-0, to Stevenson Tuesday night in Owings Mills, MD. The loss snapped the Blue Jays program-record 16-game win streak.

Hopkins (16-1) was held to a season-low .098 hitting percentage by Stevenson (16-1), while committing 12 service errors in defeat.

Freshman Jasmine Warmington tallied six kills in the first set to give the Blue Jays control early, but Mustangs snatched the first set victory after capitalizing on two Hopkins errors to finish the set, 26-24.

Stevenson and Hopkins battled back-and-forth early in the second and third sets, however, the Mustangs put together runs of 10-4 and 9-1, respectively, to close out both sets.

The Mustangs' Jessica Gieselman notched 28 assists, while Samantha Perillo had 25 digs in the victory. Warmington finished with a team-high 11 kills for the Blue Jays, as senior Amelia Thomas collected 20 digs.

The loss snapped the Blue Jays' 29-game regular season winning streak. Hopkins eyes a return to the win column on Saturday against conference foe, Swarthmore, at Goldfarm Gym.
