Box Score BALTIMORE, MD -- Senior Alex Brandt scored two goals as #5 Messiah defeated #3 Johns Hopkins, 4-0, at Homewood Field Wednesday night. The loss snapped the Blue Jays' 31-game regular season winning streak.
Hopkins (2-1) controlled the first 30 minutes of possession, but Messiah (2-1) capitalized in the 43rd minute to jump out to a 1-0 lead on a Nikki Elsaesser goal.
The Blue Jays' opened the second half with an excellent opportunity as Christina Convey got behind the Falcon defense for a one-on-one. Messiah's goalkeeper Audra Larson was up for the challenge, however, and stoned Convey. Larson finished with five saves in the shutout victory.
The Falcons took advantage of Larson's save and quickly responded in the 55th minute as Brandt beat Hopkins goalkeeper Meredith Maguire to double the lead.
Messiah dominated the midfield for the remainder of the second half, and knocked home two more goals in the final 10 minutes. Trishia Tshudy scored on a blast from 20 yards in the 83rd minute, while Brandt confidently beat Maguire one-on-one for her second goal.
Hopkins faces a quick turnaround, as it is scheduled to face #2 Emory on Friday in Raleigh, NC. Emory defeated Messiah in overtime, 2-1, last weekend.
