BALTIMORE, MD - Sophomore Maggie Fruehan matched a career-high with 12 points to hold off a fierce rally and defeat Haverford, 52-46, Saturday afternoon in Goldfarb Gym. The win marked the Blue Jays third consecutive conference victory.

Leading 46-37 with 2:49 to play, Haverford (9-4, 6-3 CC) went on a 9-2 run to cut the Hopkins lead to two with 22 seconds remaining. The Blue Jays were composed from the foul line, however, and sealed the contest when Liz Tommasi and Stacy Fairey knocked down a pair of free throws.

Hopkins (7-8, 5-5 CC) led the entire game, and stretched an early lead to 11-2 with 13:21 to play in the first half. Stingy defense was key for the Blue Jays in the early going, as they managed to hold their opponent to just one basket in the game's first five minutes for the second consecutive game.

The Blue Jays countered Haverford's defensive set by targeting Fruehan early and often in the first half. The young sophomore responded by scoring shooting 4-for-4 in the frame for eight points.

Hopkins extended its lead to as much as 14 points with 6:59 in the first half when Tommasi put the Blue Jays ahead 22-8 with a layup. The Fords' Nina Voith collected an offensive rebound under the basket and put home a layup to bring her side within nine points, 24-15, at the break.

Haverford quickly closed the Hopkins advantage to six points three minutes into the second half on a 3-pointer by Victoria Sobocinski, but the Blue Jays answered right back with baskets from Fairey and Fruehan.

The Fords resorted to the 3-point efforts in an effort to cut their deficit, but shot just 3-for-11 from beyond the arc in the second half. Rachel Baskin shot a meager 2-for-12 from the field in the frame.

Senior Alex Vassila recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 10 points and 13 rebounds, while Fairey notched double-digit points (10) for the eighth time in nine games. Haverford, meanwhile, was the beneficiary of a combined 25 points from Jacquelyne Pizzuto and Voith.

Hopkins finished the week a perfect 3-0 for the first time all season, and has quietly crept its way back into the Centennial Conference playoff race with three wins against contending opponents. The Blue Jays won by an average of 10 points during the span.

Bryn Mawr is next on the schedule for the sizzling Jays, who will get a bit of respite with a four-day break before their bout on Thursday in Goldfarb Gym at 7:00 pm. Hopkins is 27-0 all-time against Bryn Mawr.
