Box Score

BALTIMORE, MD - Stacy Fairey and Katie Clark each notched eight points in a losing effort Tuesday night as the Johns Hopkins women's basketball team fell to No. 8 Messiah, 71-50.

Messiah (11-1) led the entire contest, taking a 37-18 lead into halftime before breaking open a 30-point lead late in the second half. Hopkins (4-8) struggled to gain offensive momentum throughout the night, committing 25 turnovers.

The Falcons jumped out to an 11-2 lead four minutes into the first frame on six points by Dori Gyori. Hopkins cut the lead to three points, 12-9, but failed to keep pace with Messiah. Shooting 47% from the field, Messiah used a 12-1 run to close out the half.

Messiah carried its momentum into the second half, as it used a 10-2 run in the first six minutes to open a 27-point advantage. The Blue Jays shot proficiently in the second half (47.6%), but the deficit was too much to overcome.

Taylor Miller had a match-high 21 points for the Falcons, while Gyori notched 14 points and seven rebounds. Blue Jay leading scorer and rebounder, Alex Vassila, was held to just four points and five rebounds.

Hopkins returns to the court on January 8 in an important conference match against Swarthmore at 4:00 pm.
