BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins water polo team dropped a pair of league matches over the weekend, falling at 12th-ranked Princeton on Saturday and then at Bucknell on Sunday. The Blue Jays fell to the league-leading Tigers, 11-5, and then lost 13-6 to the Bison. Senior Stephen Kingery led the Blue Jay (12-6) with four goals in the two games.
Princeton jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the first quarter and stretched it to a 7-3 lead at the half. The Tigers continued to control the scoreboard as they outscored the Blue Jays 4-2 in the second half. Kingery and freshman Matt Fraser each scored a pair of goals to lead Hopkins and Fraser also drew four ejections. Sophomore Erik Henrikson made six saves in the goal.
Sunday morning, Bucknell pushed out to a 3-0 lead before Kingery got Hopkins on the board with 1:10 to play in the first quarter. The Bison, however, answered with three straight goals to take a 6-1 lead before a breakaway goal by freshman Giovanni Cragnotti with 21 seconds on the clock made it a 6-2 game at the half. Bucknell got two quick goals to start the third quarter and the Bison led 8-2 with 4:57 to play in the stanza. The teams then traded goals over the ensuing 11 minutes and Bucknell's lead stood at 12-6 with just 3:01 to go in the game. Jack Else closed out the scoring with his fourth of the game at the 2:19-mark.
Kingery once again led the Blue Jays with a pair of goals, as he was the team's only multi-goal scorer. Henrikson made six saves in three quarters of action, while junior Danny Ovelar was credited with one save in one quarter of play.
