HAVERFORD, PA - The Hopkins volleyball team was bested by Haverford 3-0 (26-24, 25-19, 25-21) on the road Friday night. The Blue Jays challenged in the first set, but could not keep pace with the Fords as they dropped their second Centennial match of the season. The team drops to 8-8 on the season and 4-2 in the conference.
Down 8-11 in the first set, Hopkins took a 13-11 lead after junior Taylor Jansen served four straight points. The Jays stayed up until Haverford climbed back to tie the game 21-21, and again at 23-23. With the game in their reach at 24-23, the Blue Jays could not hold off the relentless Haverford attack, as the Fords scored three straight points and took the set.
Hopkins played from behind for much of the second and third sets, and could not produce consistent offensive pressure on the Fords. After dropping the second set 25-19, the Jays showed some life again in the third set as junior Anne Cohen served six straight points. JHU went up 14-13 and again at 19-18, but could not finish as Haverford took the set 25-21.
Junior Meagan Donohoe returned for Hopkins after missing time with an injury, posting 11 kills and eight digs in her first game back. The Jays have a quick turnaround on schedule, with a game at Goldfarb Gym vs. Bryn Mawr tomorrow at noon.
