BALTIMORE, MD - Sophomore Caitlin Callihan recorded 14 kills, and the Hopkins volleyball team served 15 aces to overpower Bryn Mawr 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-11) on Saturday afternoon. It was the team's highest total of service aces in a three-set match this season, and equaled it's previous high of 15 aces against Ursinus on October 5. Hopkins moves to 9-8 on the season with the victory and 5-2 in the Centennial Conference.
In the first set, it appeared as though the game was getting away from the Jays down 16-18 before a timeout was called. Hopkins grinded out some tough points, led by Caitlin Callihan's eight kills, and eventually took the set 25-22. Hopkins did not let off the gas pedal from there, rushing out to a 17-6 lead in the second set powered by junior Kim Bronson's four service aces. After winning 25-14, the Blue Jays carried that momentum into the third set, cruising to a 25-11 victory to win the match.
The Jays are now tied for fourth in the Centennial standings, with three conference matches against McDaniel (16-5), Gettysburg (12-10) and Dickinson (6-14) remaining this season. Hopkins will take on McDaniel, also tied for fourth in the Centennial, on October 23 at Goldfarb Gym.
