ALLENTOWN, PA - Freshman Samy Ramadane scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner, as Johns Hopkins beat host Muhlenberg, 3-1, in Centennial Conference men's soccer action Saturday night. The Blue Jays run their unbeaten streak to five (4-0-1) as they improve to 6-6-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the conference. The Mules have their unbeaten streak snapped at three and fall to 7-6-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the Centennial.
Junior Rob Heuler put the visitors on the board in just the 13th minute with his first of the season. He fired a shot from outside the Muhlenberg box that deflected off a defender and in. The Mules answered however in the 34th minute to knot the score at one apiece. Jacob Joseph took a pass from Brendan McIntyre and scored just inside the far post from in tight. The score didn't stay tied for long as Ramadane scored the first of his career-best two goals in the 41st minute to put Hopkins back on top. He dribbled along the end line, cut back in and slipped a shot under a diving Danny Pinto for his third of the season.
Ramadane then staked the Blue Jays to a two-goal lead in the 64th minute in a goal very similar to his first. He dribbled in from the end line and lofted a shot from a tight angle over Pinto to make it a 3-1 game. The Hopkins defense would make the score stand with a team save by sophomore Kevin Caskey in the 78th minute followed by a stop from freshman keeper Matt Paris in the 83rd minute.
Paris finished with the one save to earn the win while Pinto made three stops in the loss. Hopkins outshot Muhlenberg, 11-9, while Muhlenberg had the edge in corners, 6-5.
Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, October 23 as the Blue Jays host the McDaniel Green Terror at Homewood Field. The Centennial Conference match-up is slated for a 7:00 pm start.
