GETTYSBURG, PA - Freshman Victor Osio scored in the 85th minute to lift visiting Johns Hopkins to a 1-0 victory at Gettysburg Wednesday night in Centennial Conference men's soccer action. The Blue Jays earn their first conference victory of the season and improve to 3-6-1 overall and 1-2-0 in the CC. The Bullets suffer their first conference loss as the fall to 2-7-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the conference.
Gettysburg nearly took an early 1-0 lead in the 25th minute following a corner. Following a in the box, Andrew Bellis took a point-blank shot on the Blue Jay goal but freshman Matt Paris knocked it over the crossbar to keep the game scoreless. Bellis had another great shot in the 52nd minute with a header off a Brooks Taylor corner, but it hit the crossbar. Gettysburg continued to test Paris and in the 72nd minute, he knocked away rocket from the top of the box by Andrew McLane to keep the score knotted at zero.
It was Osio and the Blue Jays that would finally get one on the board. Freshman David Adejunmobi crossed the ball from the right wing and Osio one-timed it past Connor Darrell from the right side of the box for the game-winner. Gettysburg would earn a corner in the 86th minute but it would not get another shot in the closing minutes.
Paris finished with three saves in earning his first career collegiate shutout. Darrell made four saves in the loss for the Bullets. Gettysburg outshot Hopkins, 13-11, and had seven corners to five for the Blue Jays. Hopkins wins at Gettysburg for the first time since 2010, also a 1-0 victory.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, October 5 as Ursinus visit Homewood Field. The Centennial Conference match-up is slated for a 4:30 pm start.
