BALTIMORE, MD - Junior Rob Heuler headed home the game's only goal to lift host Johns Hopkins to a 1-0 win over McDaniel in Centennial Conference men's soccer action Wednesday night at Homewood Field. The Blue Jays remain unbeaten in their last six games as they improve to 7-6-2 overall and 4-2-1 in the Centennial, while the Green Terror slip to 7-5-3 and 1-4-2 in the conference with the loss.

Hopkins earned a free kick in the 11th minute about eight yards inside the left touchline and junior Kotaro Mitsuhashi took the kick. He sent a perfect ball near side to Heuler, who flicked a header inside the left post for his second goal in as many games. Just over eight minutes later, Mitsuhashi played a key role on the other end of the field as well. A scramble ensued in the Blue Jay box off a Green Terror corner kick and Shane McCracken, the conference's leading scorer, got off a great shot that seemed destined to sneak inside the right post. But Mitsuhashi, who was flush with the post, cleared the ball off the line and out of danger.

Sophomore Gary Lawrence nearly gave the Blue Jays a two-goal lead in the 85th minute after Hopkins drew a free kick. Lawrence sent a blistering shot from about 30 yards out that looked to be going high, but at the last minute dipped and just skimmed off the crossbar.

Freshman Matt Paris made a pair of saves to earn his second shutout of the season. Zach Nibbelink finished with five saves in the loss for the Terror. Hopkins had an 11-10 edge in shots, while McDaniel had a 6-3 advantage in corners.

Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, October 26 as the Blue Jays travel to the Eastern Shore to take on the Washington College Shoremen. Game time for the Centennial Conference match-up is set for 1:00 pm.
