BALTIMORE, MD - Despite outhitting the Green Terror .193 to .183 with a 43-26 advantage in kills, Hopkins dropped its third Centennial Conference match of the season 3-1 (25-23, 25-22, 19-25, 25-10) Wednesday evening. Errors were the story of the night, as Hopkins committed a season-high in attack errors in a four set match (23). A season-high 15 ball handling errors and 21 service errors forced the Jays to play behind for most the night, as the team fell to 9-9 on the season and 5-3 in the Centennial Conference.
Despite getting out to an 18-10 lead in the first set, Hopkins could not close it out as McDaniel rallied to tie the game 20-20. The teams battled to 23-23, before the Green Terror broke away for the 25-23 victory. Hopkins went down 14-20 in the second set, before climbing back to cut the deficit to 20-23. After a McDaniel timeout, the Green Terror got back on track eventually winning 22-25.
Hopkins did not go away easily, hitting an efficient .308 in the third set, en route to a 25-19 victory. However, the Jays did not show up in the fourth, recording a match-low seven kills as McDaniel rolled to a 25-10 victory. Sophomore Kloe Martin led McDaniel with nine kills and two service aces, and the Green Terror improved to 17-5 on the season and 6-2 in conference play.
Hopkins will have an opportunity to get back in the win column this weekend at the Wild Guisler Invitational hosted by Juniata. The Jays will face No. 11 Juniata on Friday night, and will return to the court against Carnegie Mellon and DeSales on Saturday afternoon.
