GETTYSBURG, PA - Hopkins finished with a team hitting percentage of .295 en route to a 3-0 victory (25-17, 25-13, 25-18) over Gettysburg Wednesday evening. Junior Meagan Donohoe led the Jays with 12 kills, while sophomores Caitlin Callihan and Ali Cox combined for 15 in the team's 10th victory of the season. Hopkins (10-12, 6-3) secured a spot in the Centennial Conference playoffs with the win, and currently holds the No. 4 seed with one conference match remaining
The Blue Jays got off to a solid start, breaking away for a 14-7 lead midway though the first set. Gettysburg cut the lead to 15-12, but the Blue Jays kept the pressure on finishing with a game-high 15 kills and a 25-17 victory.
Hopkins did not slow down in the second set, building a 19-7 lead before securing a 25-13 win. The Jays finished with a season-high .571 hitting percentage in the second set with 14 kills and only two errors, and carried that momentum into the third. The final set saw the biggest push from the hosts, as Gettysburg played JHU to a 17-17 tie. Hopkins continued to convert opportunities down the stretch, hitting for .400 and winning 25-18 to get the sweep.
The Jays will travel to Dickinson on November 2 to play their final regular season match of the year. Depending on the results of conference matches throughout the weekend, Hopkins could move up into the No. 3 seed or down into the No. 5 spot.
