BALTIMORE, MD - Senior forward Alex Vassila had 18 points and nine rebounds as the Johns Hopkins women's basketball fell to McDaniel, 57-50, Wednesday night in Goldfarb Gym. Hopkins dropped to 13-10 (11-7 CC), while McDaniel moved to 11-12 (8-10 CC).

The Green Terror took the lead, 47-44, on a 3-pointer by Steph Perez with five minutes to go and never looked back. Hopkins staged a late rally to bring the deficit to one, 51-50, with 1:03 to play, but missed its final three shots as its comeback effort fell short.

The Blue Jays appeared to be on their way to victory after taking a 31-22 lead into the halftime break on 46% shooting. The lead was largely attributed to a 17-3 run midway through the half that was capped off by a 3-pointer from Jessica Brown.

Hopkins lost its way in the second half, however, as McDaniel's leading scorer, Perez, got loose for 13 points. Perez finished with 18, while teammate Rachael Rybak notched 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting.

McDaniel chose to settle for outside perimeter shots throughout the game to stay away from the inside presence of Hopkins' Vassila. Despite losing the battle in the paint 30-6, the Green Terror's plan proved to be successful.

Freshman Katie Clark and Brown had seven points each for Hopkins, while Fatu Conteh had six points and eight rebounds.

Hopkins remains in a tie for third place in the Centennial Conference standings as Haverford also lost tonight. The Blue Jays travel to Ursinus on Saturday for a 1:00 pm bout in Collegeville, PA.
