Blue Jays Sweep Washington College in CC Opener

BALTIMORE, MD - Junior Meagan Donohoe led the way with 18 kills, and Hopkins defeated Washington College 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-18) to earn its first Centennial Conference victory of the season Tuesday evening. Hopkins had nine different players record at least one kill, and seven different players tally at least one assist in the match.

The Blue Jays were in danger of surrendering the first set, after the Shorewomen rallied to come within one point 23-22. Donohoe and junior Kim Bronson converted some key kills to earn the final tow points, and Hopkins held of the late barrage to take the set 25-23.

The Jays took control early in the second set, and quickly built a 22-15 lead thanks in part to Donohoe's nine kills. Washington College climbed back into it, cutting the lead to 24-19, before Hopkins shut the door and won the set 25-20. The Blue Jays cruised to a 25-18 victory in the final set to sweep the Shorewomen in straight sets and move to 5-4 on the season. Hopkins will be back in action on September 21 to take on Muhlenberg in Allentown, PA.
