SWARTHMORE, PA - Host and 19th-ranked Swarthmore scored the game's only goal in the 59th minutes as the Garnet beat Johns Hopkins, 1-0, in Centennial Conference men's soccer action Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays slip to 2-4-1 and 0-1-0 in the conference, while the Garnet remain unbeaten at 5-0-2 overall and 1-0-0 in the CC.
Geoff Stewart scored his first goal of the season at the 58:19-mark to put Garnet ahead, 1-0. He took a pass from Noah Sterngold and fired a shot from the top of the box into the upper part of the net for what turned out to be the game's only goal.
Freshman Matt Paris finished with five saves in the loss, while Peter Maxted made one in the shutout. Swarthmore outshot Hopkins 20-7 and had a 6-5 advantage in corners.
Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, September 25 as the Blue Jays travel to the Eastern Shore to take on the Salisbury Sea Gulls. Game time at SU Soccer Complex is set for 4:00 pm.
