OWINGS MILLS, MD - Stevenson rolled in straight sets (25-19, 25-19, 25-17) to hand Hopkins its fifth loss of the season and the team's second defeat on the road. The Blue Jays challenged early, but could not fall into a consistent rhythm and had no answer for the Stevenson attack.
The first set proved to be the closest, as Hopkins rallied back from an early deficit to take a 13-12 lead. Junior Kim Bronson recorded the kill to start the comeback down 9-12, and served three straight points to give Hopkins the lead. Both teams were back and forth for the remainder of the set, before Stevenson was able to pull away. Mustang senior Jessica Gieselman served four straight points and had three straight assists to take the set 25-19.
The Jays dug themselves a hole in the second set, going down 8-0 before scoring their first point. Despite a few promising runs, Hopkins could not stay in sync and Stevenson took the set 25-19. The No. 20 Mustangs took control again in the third set, and held on 25-17 to capture the victory. Stevenson remains undefeated this season after tonight's win.
This marks Stevenson's second victory of the season vs. Hopkins, previously beating the Jays 3-0 at the Gio Memorial Tournament September 7. Hopkins has a quick turnaround this week, with a road contest vs. Gallaudet slated for Thursday, September 26 and a Centennial Conference match vs. Swarthmore on September 28 at Goldfarb Gym.
