BALTIMORE, MD - Junior Hannah Kronick had her third multiple-goal performance of the season, and Hopkins cruised to a 3-0 victory at home against Swarthmore. Senior Christina Convey scored the first goal for Hopkins in the 22nd minute, and the Blue Jays produced another stellar defensive effort to force the Garnet scoreless.
After a barrage of early pressure in the first half, Convey put away her fourth goal of the season after collecting her own rebound and placing a shot past the Swarthmore keeper on the right side. Ten minutes later, Hopkins earned a penalty kick after senior Kelly Baker was fouled inside the box trying to collect a cross. Kronick got the nod to take the shot, which was saved by the Swarthmore keeper and deflected in front of the net. Kronick raced to the loose ball, and buried a shot on the right side to give the Jays a 2-0 edge.
Hopkins had a number of scoring chances later in the half, most notably from junior Sydney Teng. Teng received a nice pass from Kronick for an open look down the left sideline, but the shot sailed just high over the crossbar.
The second half remained scoreless until Kronick was able to position herself to receive a booming punt from senior goalie Kelly Leddy. After bouncing over a Swarthmore defender, Kronick took the ball down the right sideline and powered a shot off the right foot past the keeper in the 82nd minute. Swarthmore had scoring chances throughout the second half, leading to a season-high seven saves for Leddy.
Hopkins will return to Homewood Field on October 5 to face Ursinus for the team's fourth conference match of the season.
