CARLISLE, PA - Sophomore Katie Clark finished with a career-high 20 points, as Hopkins went on to top Dickinson 64-42 on the road Thursday evening. The Blue Jays shot 44.1% from the field; the team's best mark since shooting 49.0% against Ursinus on November 23, while out-rebounding the Red Devils 43-27. Hopkins improves to 10-3 with the victory and 8-0 in the Centennial Conference, while completing the season sweep over Dickinson. The Red Devils fall to 3-10 on the year (0-8 CC).
The teams traded baskets early in the first half, before Hopkins broke away for an 11-6 lead after consecutive baskets from Alyssa Fleming, Rachel Cook and Fatu Conteh. Dickinson freshman Erica Buls helped the Red Devils stay alive, scoring five consecutive points on three free throws and a basket underneath to equalize the Jays at 11.
Clark notched seven of her nine first half points in succession beginning at the 8:28 mark on a three pointer and two jumpers to put the Jays ahead 27-16. Hopkins took its largest lead of the half with 4:56 remaining, after a nice move in the paint from Haley Bush scored an easy layup and gave Hopkins a 30-17 edge.
The Blue Jays did not skip a beat in the second half, jumping out to a 11-4 run on eight points from Clark and three from senior Alyssa Flemming. JHU held the Red Devils to only 33.3% shooting in the second half, and 28.6% from beyond the arc.
Sophomore Liz Tommasi tied her season-high with 12 points, and Fleming added 14 points with two steals and three rebounds to help Hopkins secure the victory.
This is the first time since the 2004-05 season that Hopkins has opened up Centennial Conference play with eight straight wins. The Blue Jays will go for No. 9 this Saturday, January 19 on the road against Ursinus (6-6, 4-3 CC).
