Box Score

BALTIMORE, MD - Senior Fatu Conteh and sophomore Katie Clark combined for 36 points, as Hopkins took down Washington College 65-49 to remain unbeaten in the Centennial Conference Wednesday evening. Clark led the team in scoring for the fourth straight game with 19 points, while Conteh added 17 including 15 in the second-half. The Blue Jays caught fire in the second half, shooting 62.5% from the field while holding the Shorewomen to only seven field goals and scoreless from beyond the arc. Hopkins improves to 12-3 on the season and 10-0 in the Centennial, while Washington drops to 5-10 and 4-5 in conference play.

With the game tied at the start of the second half, it didn't take long for the Blue Jays to get ahead and stay there. Senior Alyssa Fleming hit a three-ball in the opening minute to put her side up three, before a quick layup from Washington senior Latisha Pledger cut the lead to one with 18:44 remaining. Hopkins responded with two consecutive steals, which were easily converted on the fast break at the opposite end by Clark and Conteh.

The teams traded baskets from there on, as the Jays steadily built on their lead. With 8:50 to go in the half, a layup from Washington freshman Daniela Falcone put her team within six with plenty of time left to make a run. However, the Blue Jays shut the door on any comeback attempts, stringing together a 10-0 run of their own that spanned over three minutes. Hopkins took care of the ball down the stretch and closed out a 16-point victory to remain undefeated in Conference play.

No lead was safe in the game's opening half, as Hopkins got off to an 11-5 run but could not stay ahead. Down six, the Shorewomen scored eight straight buckets to take a 13-11 lead with 11:34 remaining in the half, before a layup from junior Ciara McCullagh evened things up at the 10:14 mark. Hopkins went on another run, this time scoring nine straight points to lead 25-16 with only 5:27 remaining. The Jays could not hang on, and surrendered nine straight points before the end of the first as the teams went into the intermission 27-27.

McCullagh was one board shy of a double-double, finishing with 13 points and nine rebounds to give the Jays a strong inside presence. Junior Emily Hubley led the Shorewomen with 11 points. After getting out-muscled on the boards in the first half, the Blue Jays held a 23-13 advantage in the second to take a +9 rebounding margin over the Shorewomen.

The Lady Blue Jays will return to the court on January 25 to host Muhlenebrg (11-4, 6-3 CC) at Goldfarb Gym. When the teams first met on December 7, Fatu Conteh scored a team-high 11 points to help JHU earn the 65-58 win on the road.
