COLLEGEVILLE, PA - The Johns Hopkins volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 win over host Ursinus on Saturday afternoon. The visiting Jays bumped its record to 12-10 overall and 4-2 in Centennial Conference play with the win.
The first set was back-and-forth, before the Blue Jays were able to pull away and take the set, 29-27. After hitting just .093 in the first set, the Jays stepped up its hitting in the second set, hitting .344 in a 25-19 win. The third set saw the Jays execute very well offensively, hitting .565 and cruising to an easy 25-9 win.
Liz Wuerstle and Ali Cox led the way for the Blue Jays offensively, notching 12 and 10 kills, respectively. Meanwhile, setter Kristi Rhead and Carolyn Zin did their jobs, combining for 31 of the teams 35 assists. Defensively Anne Cohen led the team with 16 digs and also led the team with four service aces. Freshman Mereze Visagie imposed her will in the middle, notching nine kills on 14 swings while also tallying two solo blocks.
For Ursinus, Taylor McCartney and Karla Thiele led the team with six kills apiece, while Gina Powers dished out 19 assists.
The Blue Jays are in action again Oct. 18 as they host Haverford at 1 p.m. in Goldfarb Gymnasium.
