ASTON, PA - Junior Kenny DeStefano's goal in the game-winner proved to be all the offense the Johns Hopkins men's soccer team would need in a 1-0 win at Neumann Tuesday night. The Blue Jays improve to 8-3-2 with the win while the Knights fall to 4-8-1.
DeStefano beat Knights' goalie Dan Jones at the 39:26-mark to stake the Blue Jays to a 1-0 lead. Senior Nick Cerrone and Hopkins' defense would make it stand. Cerrone made a pair of saves, including one on a Devin Peterson header with 27 seconds left, to earn his second shutout of the season.
Hopkins outshot Neumann, 14-5, including an 8-0 advantage in the first. JHU also had two corners, to one for Neumann.
Hopkins returns to action and Centennial Conference play on Saturday, October 18. The Blue Jays will travel to Lancaster, PA to take on the sixth-ranked Franklin & Marshall Diplomats. Game time is slated for 6:00 pm at Tylus Field.
