Box Score Oct. 4, 2014 Final Stats SWARTHMORE, PA - The Johns Hopkins volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday afternoon at Swarthmore College. In its first match of the day, the Jays fell 3-2 to the host, but rebounded in the second match against Neumann 3-1. The Jays record now sits at 10-10, while they move to 1-2 CC play with the loss to Swarthmore.
In the first match against Swarthmore, the Jays were up 2-1 with, before falling in 3-1. Freshman Kristi Rhead the way for the Blue Jays with 10 kills and 40 assists in the five set match. Rhead also tallied five block assists and 10 digs. Liz Wuerstle (14) Ally Hirsch (15) and Mereze Visagie (12) all tallied over 10 kills on the match. Defensively Anne Cohen totaled 24 digs, while Erica Johnston wasn't far behind with 21.
As a team the Jays hit just .170, connecting on 62 of 194 attacks. Unforced errors plagued the Jays, as it seems they have all season, as the team had 19 service errors, three block errors, and seven ball handling errors.
Though coming off the tough five set loss, the Jays made quick work of Neumann, winning in three sets, 25-15, 25-15, 25-17.
Hirsch led the way in the second, posting 11 kills while Rhead and Carolyn Zin combined for 32 assists. After a tough first match offensively for Johnston, she rebounded nicely with seven kills and a .545 hitting percentage while adding 10 digs.
The Jays are back in action Wednesday as they host Franklin & Marshall at 7 p.m.
