WILKES BARRE, PA -- The Johns Hopkins wrestling team competed in the John Reese Duals at Wilkes University on Saturday. The Blue Jays dropped all three of their matches, falling to Oneonta (31-15), Wilkes (38-6) and Messiah (34-12). Messiah is currently ranked second in the nation by the NWCA.

The Blue Jays were led by freshmen Tommy Grifa and Christian Vallis, who both went 2-1 on the day. Grifa picked up wins against Wilkes and Messiah with his only loss a narrow 7-5 setback in his match against Oneonta. Vallis scored wins by decision against Oneonta and Messiah.

Senior 125 Paul Bewak returned to action for the Blue Jays after missing the opening weekend and went 1-1 on the day. The winningest wrestler in school history with a 101-19 record after today's competition, he scored a second-period pin against Oneonta before dropping a tough 2-1 decision to Lucas Malmberg of Messiah. Malmberg is currently ranked second in the nation, while Bewak entered today's match ranked fourth.
