GETTYSBURG, PA - The Johns Hopkins women's basketball team got off to a slow start and a 13-5 Gettysburg run at the end of the first half proved to haunt the Blue Jays, who fell 63-54.

The first half saw the Blue Jays get down early before the Bullets flexed their muscles and took an 11 point advantage into halftime. The Bullet trio of Jenna Swope, Jessica Porter and Emily Gibbons combined for 25 of the team's 31 first half points.

In addition to being unable to contain the Bullets trio, the Jays committed nine first half turnovers and shot just 33 percent from the field including 0-6 from three-point range en route to a season-low 19 first half points.

The second half saw the Jays come out quick and cut the Bullets lead to eight. Beatriz Williams answered a Gibbons three with a layup of her own to keep the Jays within nine. From there Porter knocked in a bucket before Gibbons dropped in a three after a two of her own, pushing the Bullets lead to 16.

After cutting the Bullet lead to 10, 56-46, Liz Tommasi nailed a three for the visitors and Haley Bush followed it up with a bucket of her own, pulling the Jays to within five with 2:50 left.

Emily Duggan answered with an old-fashioned three-point play, and put the Bullets up eight. But Tommasi refused to let down, barreling in for a layup of her own to cut the Bullets lead to six with 2:08 left.

Following a Jays timeout, Beatriz Williams missed a jumper that would've cut the lead to four. On the other end Gibbons put the nail in the coffin and extended the Bullets lead to eight with one minute to go before free throws put the game away for the hosts.

Williams led the Jays with 16 points on the night to go along with five rebounds and two blocks. Bush continued her strong start to the season with 10 points and seven rebounds of her own, while also proving to be a strong defensive presence with three blocks.

For Gettysburg, Gibbons led the way off the bench with 24 points and 10 rebounds, and finished 4-6 from three-point range. Meanwhile Porter notched a double-double of her own, going for 18 points and 10 rebounds.

The Blue Jays are next in action Saturday as they host Muhlenberg. Tip-off is slated for 2 pm.
