GETTYSBURG, PA - Sophomore Katie Clark a career day, finishing with 21 points, nine rebounds and seven assists as Hopkins went on to secure a 61-55 victory over Gettysburg Wednesday evening. It was the Murrieta, CA native's first game back since missing the two previous contests due to injury, and she made her presence known finishing 8-13 from the floor with a career-highs in rebounds (9) and assists (7). Hopkins improves to 16-6 (13-3 CC) on the season with the victory, while Gettysburg falls to 14-7 (9-6 CC).
With a Gettysburg comeback knocking on the door at the 4:10 mark in the second half, Hopkins dug in to defend its slim 51-49 advantage. After turning the ball over on the offensive end, the Jays survived back-to-back missed three point attempts by the Bullets, before Clark was able to pull in a defensive rebound. On the other end, Clark dished a nice pass to senior Alyssa Fleming on the right side, who hit an open three to put Hopkins ahead 54-49 with 2:27 remaining.
The Blue Jays retained at least a four-point lead for the remainder of the game, halting any last-ditch runs from Gettysburg and converting free throws down the stretch. Hopkins finished 4-7 from beyond the arc in the second half, while holding the Bullets scoreless from three in the second and only 1-10 in the game.
Hopkins trailed by as many as seven points in the first half, and a 7-0 run jump started by a three-point bucket from Clark tied the contest with 5:05 remaining. Gettysburg responded with a jumper from Jessica Porter after a JHU turnover, but Hopkins was eventually able to get within one after a series of free throws made it 24-23 with 2:49 remaining.
With 41 seconds remaining, it was none other than Clark who gave the Jays the lead going into the locker-room, hitting a jumper off a fast break to make it 25-24.
Sophomore Liz Tommasi (11) and Fleming (10) both finished in double figures to help pace the Jays.
Hopkins will enter a weeklong hiatus before returning to the court on February 19 against McDaniel. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 pm, as Hopkins will celebrate senior day in its last regular season home game.
