GRANTHAM, PA -- Third-ranked Messiah jumped out to a 15-0 lead and won eight of 10 matches en route to a 33-9 victory against visiting Johns Hopkins in non-conference wrestling action Friday night.
Three nationally-ranked Falcons earned wins on the night to fuel the victory. Top-ranked Kaleb Loht pinned Evan Krumheuer at 141 and fifth-ranked Josh Thomson added an 11-0 major decision victory against Kyle Spangler at 184. Fourth-ranked Lucas Malmberg won by forfeit at 125 as Johns Hopkins' third-ranked Paul Bewak missed the match with a minor injury.
The Blue Jays scored wins at 149 and 174 to account for their nine points. Senior Duncan Crystal topped Greg Kabakjian, 4-2, at 149, and freshman Jared Forman needed just 2:05 to pin Jeremy Bailes at 174.
Forman's pin sliced the deficit to 21-9, but Thomson's major at 184 ignited a string of three straight wins by major decision to close the match for Messiah.
Johns Hopkins (7-5) returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 8) as the Blue Jays travel to Merchant Marine to take on Muhlenberg and the host Mariners in a pair of Centennial Conference duals.
