LEWISBURG, PA - The Johns Hopkins water polo team got goals from 12 different players in a 16-0 win over Penn State Behrend Sunday morning at the Bucknell Invitational. The Blue Jays improve to 3-3 on the season while the Lions fall to 1-4. It is Hopkins' fourth shutout in program history and first since a 14-0 win over Grove City on November 1, 2003.
Hopkins jumped out to a five-goal lead in the first quarter, led by junior Kevin Yee's two goals. The Blue Jays poured it on in the second quarter, scoring eight goals. Sophomore Matt Fraser paced the Jays in the second stanza with a pair of goals. Hopkins slowed the offense in the final two quarters, scoring three goals in the final 16 minutes.
Freshman Surya Ram and Fraser led Hopkins on the day with two goals and two assists each. Ram also had a pair of steals and his four points were a career high. Yee finished with three points (2g, 1a) while freshman Dimitri Herr and junior Garrett Davidson each scored a pair of goals. Junior Erik Henrikson made three saves and dished two assists in the first quarter. Freshman John Wilson played the final three and stopped four shots while handing out two assists.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, September 20 as the Blue Jays host the Princeton Tigers. The CWPA Southern Division match is slated for an 11:00 am start in the Newton White Athletic Center.
